Tarrytown House Wedding Celebration

November 30, 2016

Laura and Daniel – Long-term forecast: SUN

Most couples face obstacles, but weather usually isn’t one of them. Darkening skies threatened Dan’s beach proposal, and stormy ones threatened their wedding, but inside elegant Tarrytown House last October, all was sunshine. Laura beamed in strapless lace, bridesmaids shone in scarlet, and nieces and nephews formed a vivid parade. Watching the couple’s first dance to John Legend’s “All of Me,” we forecast only blue skies ahead.

Trinidad & David – Coffee stirs things up

When David first posed the question “coffee, tea or me?” on a coffee line, Trinidad chose coffee. When he tried again two weeks later, she succumbed. On their first date, a stroll at Westchester’s Kensico Dam, they bonded over more than lattes. That coffee line was at Morgan Stanley, where they both worked, and soon their merger begot a new acquisition: romance! It took 10 years, but this summer, the contract becomes final. At their July wedding, we’re sure they’ll switch out coffee for champagne.

Save the Date Photo Session, Tarrytown, NY

Laura & Dan – Infinite sand, one stone

We’d all agree that proposals should be romantic, surprising, even teary. But fearful?   Not an emotion we’d strive for. But Laura felt them all when Dan held out a box on a San Diego beach four years after meeting.  The idea of marriage wasn’t frightening, the idea of dropping the ring in the sand was. Laura hit the Pause button until they were safely on solid ground. Fast forward to our save-the-date shoot at Rockefeller State Park, where they strolled the wooded trails, no sand in sight, the ring shining snugly on her finger.

Stephanie and Keith – Wedding Day Champions

Stephanie and Keith have been a team for many years, but they shared their wedding with another one: the New York Rangers! Their team spirit began on a personal note at the White Plains church ceremony, with “I do” and “I do too” legible on their shoe soles while they knelt. But the team line-up surged at Tarrytown’s Doubletree Hotel reception, their favorite hockey players’ numbers noted on place cards and table numbers, and table locations mapped on a scoreboard. The entire day was a win, though we can report that the only thing on the ice was champagne.

Jackie & Derek – Dancing into the future

This newlywed couple knows how to party! Forget somber foxtrots and waltzes, Jackie and Derek got down with twerking, electronica and moves from the animated classic Dragon Ball Z. Derek’s Portuguese family smoothed it out with some traditional folk dancing, preparation for the couple’s Portuguese honeymoon. If all that dancing wasn’t colorful enough, Derek’s socks, the bridesmaids dresses, cupcakes and wedding cake glowed in vivid teal. And that crimson umbrella backdrop to Jackie’s satin gown outside Tarrytown’s stone Christ Church was a photographic stunner. The grey, cloudy weather didn’t stand a chance!

Tarrytown, NY – Keith & Stephanie’s Engagement Photo Session

Stephanie & Keith – Beneath a tree, love blooms

The Rockefeller Center tree is a tradition, and it became Stephanie and Keith’s too. They saw it the first year they dated, and the next two after that. That third time, while the lights twinkled on the tree, a diamond twinkled from Keith’s pocket. Now that’s what we call a happy holiday! Stephanie shouldn’t have been too shocked–  threes had been lucky for them before. They’d been dating almost three years, and their first dates were three in a row. It all started with dinner, when they talked until the restaurant closed for the night. We’re romantics, so we like to think it was about 3 a.m.!

Jackie & Derek

Playing to Win – Engagement Photos

Games are Jackie and Derek’s passion — but not the teary kind. All that stress and strategy is strictly on-screen, the dirty work done by Super Smash Brothers or in Final Fantasy. Off-screen, calm and kindness reign for this couple, who met in the quiet of the Tarrytown’s Warner Library and who work as artists (Derek) and stuffed-animal and doll designers (Jackie). We took their engagement photos surrounded by wildflowers in a sun-kissed meadow: a definite fantasy, but not the final one: their wedding is set for this coming June.
